OBGYN
How to find the right OBGYN for you….
01 — Ask about birthing policies
Different hospitals and birthing centers have different policies that are determined not necessarily by your doctor, but my insurance companies and the hospital itself. It’s best to know these policies to see if they are in alignment with what you want for your birthing experience.
02 — Find out what that doctor is comfortable with as it pertains to your birth plan
Now if comes to selecting your doctor. Many times when you join a practice you are assigned a doctor in that practice. Ask questions to this doctor to see what they are comfortable with in birth. Some doctors are not comfortable with twins or breech birth. Some providers are not comfortable with VBAC. It is completely ok for this to happen as each provider has experience in career that has led them to this decision. It’s your job to interview them and see if they will be a good fit for you. It’s also completely ok to change your provider at any time in care.
03 — Do you feel heard and seen?
You should leave your prenatal visits feeling heard and seen. Were your questions answered? Do you have a portal that you can ask questions? Did you feel supported in your birthing choices? Do you have questions that your provider won’t answer? Did you know you can fire a provider at any time even during labor?? Now, we hope it never comes to this, but you are in charge or your health care and you are hiring this provider. That is why we urge you to interview your providers.
